Spiritual Direction: Becky’s Approach

Confidential, Safe, Sacred Space

I think of Spiritual Direction as an inspired conversation. Typically, I meet with a “directee” to explore their relationship with the Divine, deepen their spiritual life, and support them as they seek guidance on their faith journey. It’s not counseling or therapy but rather a space for listening, discernment, and reflection.

Spiritual direction is about companionship, not advice-giving. The focus is on God’s presence in your life, and I, as the spiritual director, am there to help you listen more deeply to that presence.

Here’s what typically happens in a session with me:

  • Opening in Silence or with a Prayer/Poem/Song/Short Reading– Many sessions begin with a moment of stillness, connecting to that inner place of calm and receptivity.

  • Sharing – You, the directee, share whatever is on your heart—questions, struggles, joys, or experiences related to your faith and spiritual journey.

  • Deep Listening – I listen attentively, creating a sacred space for reflection and understanding.

  • Reflection & Discernment – I may ask open-ended questions to help you notice where God (or the divine, Spirit, etc.) is moving in your life. I may help in discerning choices, uncovering patterns, or recognizing God's presence.

  • Use of Scripture, Prayer, or Other Spiritual Practices – Depending on your background and preferences, I might introduce scripture, contemplative prayer, journaling, or other spiritual practices to support your journey.

  • Closing Blessing or Prayer – Sessions often end with a brief prayer, gratitude, or an encouragement to continue seeking spiritual growth.
